Barnacle

The dubiously named 'barnacle' is one of several invasive alien fauna that have taken over Earth's ecosystem since the Invasion. Growing on inverted surfaces, the barnacle extends a sticky rope-like tongue to the surface, where it waits for prey to be stuck. It then pulls the trapped prey up to its gaping mouth and consumes it. Barnacles have become prevalent in the canals of City 17 and have become an extreme hazard for refugees escaping the city.
