Axel Draper

Axel Draper, Resistance fighter and hacker.


Pre-Invasion Files:

Axel was born in Los Alamos, New Mexico, almost ten years before the Black Mesa Incident. He was raised solely by his father, Doctor Harold Draper, who was a lead scientist at Black Mesa's Computer Intelligence laboratory, which focused on trying to create AI. Axel was fascinated with his fathers work, and was known to do some computer coding himself - as much, anyways, as you'd expect from a nine year old.

The older Doctor Draper was killed in the initial attack, leaving Axel to fend for himself. After several transfers across the United States and Europe, Axel, now 19, was sent to City 17.

Post-Invasion Files:

Once he had spent a year in City 17, it looked as if he might end up saying. The trickle of refugees to the City was small compared to many of the other centers that he had been to, and Overwatch seemed to feel the area was safe, especially with Breen's Citadel looming over them.

Axel managed to find an old computer system and restore it to functioning order. Hacking had become more than a hobby to him as of late, and now it would be the key to his escape. Finally, he invented a virus that would cause a seeming cause a sporadic shutdown of the City's cameras, flickering on and off, but would actually include a sequenced path through the canals.

Contacting local rebels, Axel found a man named Paul Deupree who would lead him and a few other refugees through the canals under cover of Axel's virus. The plot was successful - and Draper found a Black Mesa East the perfect location for him - Doctor Wolfe provided him with powerful computer equipment they had salvaged and he was able to code away, writing hacks that could help the Resistance.
