Post-Invasion File:Joseph and his father Paul found life harsh in the Post-Invasion world. Paul tried to keep a low profile so he could safely raise Joseph - a job Overwatch made harder and harder each day. Paul was required to work long hours in a factory everyday, making devices for the Union, leaving Joseph alone for long hours in the day with no one to watch him. Few other children survived the invasion, and so Joseph spent most of his time exploring City 17 alone. This was dangerous buisness, and Joseph quickly learned his way around City 17 and how he could avoid the Overwatch.
When Paul was home, he spent countless hours teaching Joseph what skills he could to help him survive. Paul had been a carpenter, and showed Joseph how to build things. Joseph's mother had been a nurse, and Paul taught what he knew of it to Joseph.
Joseph naturally hated the Union and all that it stood for. After he was sent to work in the dangerous intercity factories at age 12, he decided that he wanted to try and do something about it. He and his friends began subtly resisting in any way they could - stealing little things when they could, doing graffiti, etc. They even sneaked in some packages for the
Resistance.
Hearing of his son's involvement, Paul revealed to Joseph that he too was a member of the Resistance, and in fact had been organizing people in their area to rebel. Joseph, proud to see the hope his father brought to others, doubled his efforts for the Resistance.
One day, when Joseph was 14, he and his friends got bold. Standing on rooftops, they waited for an isolated Civil Protection Patrol and started throwing rocks at them. The officers chased them across the rooftops, and despite their inferior knowledge of the City, caught Joseph. They recognized him immediately as Paul's son, who they had begun to suspect. They dragged Joseph to Paul's house, and demanded he come outside or they would kill his son. Paul emerged, and one of the officers who had a gun to Joseph's head raised his armed and fired. He shot Paul six times, leaving him dead in a pool of blood. The kicked Joseph senseless and left him unconscious in the street as an example to all.
Joseph became centered on the Resistance, becoming a full time operative. Joe and his crew's chief job was to lead people and supplies through the City undetected, and raid Overwatch supply shipments. He got in contact with Doctor
Sebastian Wolfe, who had created a save haven outside of the city. Joseph smuggled equipment in and out of City 17 for years, successfully avoiding death or capture. At 16, Doctor
Kleiner arrived in the City. Joseph heard whispers that Kleiner was trying to contact the Resistance, so he sought him out and got him in contact with Doctor Wolfe. Knowing Kleiner's importance, Wolfe tasked Joseph with the role of building him a lab and protecting him while he conducted his research.
